This ☝️, every ounce of it is absolutely true. You eat right, you cut back on sweets, you only get one small bag of junk food a week on your cheat day....
And then you fill your mind, heart, and soul with garbage.
The media, social media, social functions, those friends who only talk about everyone else.
It's gossip.
The media, I don't care who you watch, is gossip. They report what sells, not the facts. It's all spin. It's all about advertising and whose paying their salary....and that's what you'll hear, true or not.
It's gossip.
Social media, where every meme is a fact and Abe Lincoln talked about the dangers of the internet. Seriously, do you know how many people actually think chocolate milk comes from brown cows.....and you listen to these people! They spread pictures of so & so who beat a dog or his kid and you spread it, when he didn't do anything but tick off the wrong person and now you're a cyber bully instead if a justice warrior.
It's gossip.
That work luncheon or church event where you hear every detail of divorces, affairs, custody battles, fights....true? Maybe, probably not, but it's entertaining for sure, right?
It's gossip.
That friend who always has some juicy tidbits about her family or neighbors or mutual friends.....but never about herself, never anything more personal than the pot roast she made.
It's gossip.
And gossip by definition, is talking about someone else without confirming you're telling the truth.
As opposed to a lie, where you know you're saying something false.
But both do damage.
Once it's out there, once you put an idea in someone's head, it's there.
You've planted weeds in someone's garden without any thought to the repercussions, how it will spread, how hard it will be to remove, what it might kill or harm along the way.
That's why the bible talks against lying and gossiping. People think sins are on a teir system, where one is worse than another. They're all the same.
A lie is as bad as murder. Why?
A lie kills a life, murder kills a soul.
Gossip is a form of lying. You are talking about another person, to someone else, about things that don't concern either of you, and you're not sure you're telling the truth.
That's a lie, and it's not just lying, it's lying for attention, it's lying for the purpose of feeling important at the expense of someone else. Or for ratings, or for a promotion, or as deflection....
Self benefit, at the expense of another innocent person.
But it's just harmless gossip......
And you probably don't even see it, do you?
I didn't.
Not until I cut everything off.
No social media, no news, no tv, non ad radio, limited contact with people.
And God is good because I have not been so relaxed, clear headed, and content in a long time!
It's all noise, distraction, trouble, stress, conflict.
And we ask for it, then get up and get in line for seconds and thirds.
As humans, as generally good people, we live by the moto "Do No Harm". We don't set out to hurt people, we cringe if we hit a squirrel in the road, we cry during the sad parts in movies, we feel miserable if we hurt someone's feelings even by accident.
But we gossip, we lie, we fill our heads with it, we listen to it, repeat it......
We hurt people, we spread lies and half truths about people we don't even know...with no regard to the harm we do.
It makes me sad that as a society we've stooped to being little old ladies who need to bring someone else down to feel relevant ourselves. We should be better than that.
I, for that is all I can control, will strive to do better than that.
And I leave you with this, because it is also true......one day, in and of itself, every individual day is vital.
