In a mirror.
Looking at the person you are, remembering the person you used to be.
Wondering where the time went and who will be staring back at you in 20 years.
Figuring out the you of now, staring into your own eyes.
Today's reflection is changing.
She's wishing she had made different choices, learned faster and easier, been wiser.
She wonders if her child would have grown into a happier, healthier adult if she had been more careful of who she let influence them.
So many lies told by others that she bought and paid for. So many bad decisions those lies led to that can't be taken back.
There is pain in the past, bad memories, hurtful events. There is good too, she holds onto that. The bad is only good for learning from. The good is what makes the heart sing and the smile glow.
Will she handle the future better?
Will she be a better person?
What changes are ahead?
God knows.
She does not.
That's good.
No one should see the future.
It would spoil the adventure, the lesson, even the joy.
Definitely spoil the surprise.
She knows all the little things that stuck with her, that mean something even today.
So many interests and preferences that came from some little memory tucked away in her mind.
Life is a gift.
Our experiences are gifts.
Our loved ones are gifts.
God gives us chances, choices, love.
She doesn't need to know the future.
Her reflection will always be there and as long as she has love, God, and faith...she's all good.
Her reflection smiles back at her.
Time to be in the now again.
